Cream Cheese Brownies
These are some of our family’s favorite brownies! One of my sisters made up a batch tonight and I thought I’d share the recipe with y’all.
BROWNIE INGREDIENTS:
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/3 cup honey, sucanat w/honey, or sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 6 Tbsp. butter or margarine
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup unbleached all-purpose flour OR 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
- 1/2 tsp. baking powder
Melt chocolate chips and margarine. Add the honey (or sugar or sucanat w/honey), eggs, and vanilla. Stir till just blended. Stir together the flour and baking powder and add to chocolate mixture, stirring till moistened.
Pour about 2/3 of the batter into a greased 9″ square pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes. While it’s baking, prepare the cheese filling.
CHEESE FILLING INGREDIENTS:
- 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar or sucanat w/honey
- 1 egg
- dash of salt
Mix together the cream cheese and the sugar (or sucanat w/honey). Add the egg and salt. Mix well.
When brownie “base” is removed from the oven, pour the cream cheese filling over it and spoon on the remaining chocolate mixture. Use a butter knife to swirl them together. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 minutes.
Yield: 24 small brownies
