Paperbackswap.com
I just got two books in the mail from another member of Paperbackswap.com – what a great site!
Here’s how it works: When a member signs up (we’ll call this member Jane), she posts books from her personal library that she no longer wants or needs. These books are then added to the Paperbackswap book listing. When another member (Christa) searches through the categories and sees a book listed that she’d like to read, she puts in a request. Jane gets the request sent to her email inbox, packages up the book and sends it out to Christa, paying for the shipping herself (typical media mail rate for a book is $1.59). When Christa gets the book in the mail, she marks it received on the website and Jane gets one point added to her account. This is a credit that Jane can use if she finds a book in the PBS listings that she would like. And the sender pays to ship it to her.
You can find out more information at the PBS site – www.paperbackswap.com. (If you sign up and let them know that dancinsonshine (that’s my username) sent you, I’ll get an extra book credit.)
Other sites like this are www.bookmooch.com and www.titletrader.com.
