Hi there!
I just stumbled across your blog today and thought I would say how encouraged I am to find other stay at home daughters committed to serving Christ. Thank you for this ministry.
God bless.

Hi, Catalina,

Sorry for the long delay in responding, I had left the country the day before you asked those questions.

Since the world we live in today is not a perfect world and no one has a perfect family, there cannot be an answer to the question of what young women should do with their lives that will cover each young lady and her situation. For some, living with their parents is a great idea. For others it may not be.

You asked about families who can't afford for their daughters to stay at home and pursue whatever they want to. To this I would submit the idea that young ladies can stay at home and contribute to the household. Maybe they haven't any younger siblings to help with but they can still contribute something. For some, it may be taking over the cooking or the cleaning so Mom can go to work again. Or maybe they get a job outside the home, or start a home business, and can contribute to the household finances - or simply pay for any classes or courses they'd like to take.

I personally don't have younger siblings to help take care of. I'm not the youngest, but since the youngest is now 19 (and doesn't still live here) and the next youngest is 22, I don't have lessons to help with or baby-sitting to take over. But I contribute to the household in other ways - doing dishes, cooking dinner some nights, helping with some of the grocery shopping, etc., in addition to paying for things like my own clothing, classes I want to take, and trips I want to go on.

Although some may consider it foolish or lazy to remain at home when I could go out into what they call "the real world," it seems to me a wise choice to remain at home. Financially it's wiser, as living by myself would bring with it all sorts of bills to pay. Spiritually, I believe it's wiser, as I'm surrounded with godly counsel (even though I live at home and therefore abide by their rules, my parents do not make all my decisions for me, but are there for me if I need guidance or prayer). And emotionally/mentally/physically I think it's wiser because I'm freed from HAVING to have a full-time job and to enter into "the rat race."

I have many more examples and scenarios, but this reply is already becoming one of my "epistles," so I'll go ahead and close it off. Although it may not work or be best for everyone, for me, and for many, many other young ladies, staying home while single is the better choice.

I just stumbled upon your blog and I have to say that I appreciate what you have here and your response to the comment from Curtis. What you wrote above is what we desire for our own daughters, and we'll see what kind of choices they make as they continue to race through their teen years.

May you be blessed ~

Hello,
Would you mind answering a few questions about this movement for me? I am quite curious.

I don't mean to argue, but what do you suggest for girls who don't have perfect family situations or whose parents can't afford for them to stay home and pursue whatever they want to whatever extent they want? And what if a girl doesn't have any other siblings to help with at home?--then what's the point of staying home?

Thanks! and blessings to you!

A stay-at-home-daughter is a young lady who has chosen to remain in her parent's home while she's single. It doesn't mean that she never leaves the house, is not allowed to hold an outside job, has no friends of her own, etc. Most of these ladies, however, enjoy being able to stay at home to help their families while they don't have the responsibility of families of their own, and they have chosen to delight in refining their skills at home rather than having outside careers (careers and jobs being two different things).

Hopefully this definition helps! :)
